Since 2010, South Bronx United has offered graduating senior the opportunity to earn a college scholarship grant. Now, beginning with the Class of 2020, every student-athlete who graduates from SBU Academy can be guaranteed free money for college.

The size of scholarship grant will be calculated with a formula based on their attendance at South Bronx United’s academic programming, their tenure with the organization, and annual awards they have earned. Students will earn larger amounts for higher academic program attendance each year (up to $200 for high school years and $100 for middle school years) and recognition for annual awards like the Scholar Athlete award, Outstanding Leadership Award, MVP Award, and Club Spirit Award. That means that a every SBU Academy participant could be earning funds toward college now, regardless of what grade they are in. Students with academic attendance below 70% for the year will not accumulate funding towards a scholarship.

To be receive the scholarship money, high school seniors must submit an application by the published deadline each year. (This year’s deadline is May 1st.) On the application, high school seniors also have the ability to apply for a larger scholarship grant. Such a grant will be determined by a scholarship committee based on their financial need and the quality of their application.

SBU Academy high school seniors should complete their application at southbronxunited.org/scholarship.

SBU Academy alumni are also eligible to apply for emergency grants necessary to help them towards graduation. The alumni application is also available on the SBU Academy College Scholarship Page.

South Bronx United’s College Scholarship Fund is supported by several individual donors as well as the Play On Foundation and FC Give.
